SERVICES OFFERED by Suzy Maloney B.Eq.Sc.Dip.Couns.

Transitioning to Bitless, Bitless Horse riding, Considerate Horsemanship, Horse Training, Groundwork - $80 per hour

My greatest passion is in guiding and supporting people on a bitfree and considerate path with their horses. I come to you and your horse, at your property. Servicing Lismore and surrounding areas in Northern NSW ( approx. 30km radius from Lismore). If you have a bitless bridle great, if not, you can borrow/buy one of mine, or use a halter.

Float Your Horse to Me - $95 per hour - This option suits people who live outside the area I cover, have no-where suitable to ride at home, or just want to get their horse used to going out and about for occassions. We hire a local arena at Lagoons Grass, NSW for the sessions (arena hire fee $15 included in cost).

Equine Relationship Counselling - $80 per hour - Sometimes we have personal challenges that are hindering our ability to be and connect with our horses. These can show up in our horses behaviour resulting in relationship difficulties. In these sessions we explore the relationship between horse and human and what the healing messages are for each of them. I help the horse understand the human and the human understand the horse, so both can find harmony together. Horses must be supplied by the client. I have a Diploma in Counselling, Mental Health First Aid Certificate and over 10 years experience working with people living with mental and physical challenges.

Assistance with Horse Care for People Living with Disabilities – $80 per hour - Having a Cert IV in Disabilities, over 10 years experience working as a disability support worker and as a Riding for the Disabled Coach, I am enthusiastic about supporting people to pursue their equine dreams in whatever manner is possible for them. Helping with just daily care, training, or riding are all available to people who have their own horse and need help. Clients on NDIS who are self or plan managed are welcome.

Horse Care – $80 per hour - Learn how to look after your horses health and environmental needs from an Equine Scientist. Great for people just getting their first horse and for those experiencing difficulties. Also available to visit your horse/s while you are away to do horse maintenance, feeds and checks.

Pre-Purchase Check - $80 per hour - The most important decision you will make is which horse to buy. A professional pre-purchase assessment can help you find a good match and alert you to potential problems.

Fees include the cost of travel if within the Lismore zone, travel outside this area will incur a travel fee. Longer lessons and group lessons are available by request. Half day and full day workshops also available by request, call to discuss your needs.

Online Consulting – $75 per hour

This is a great chance to ask any questions you have and discuss areas of horsemanship, riding or training that you would like to develop further. Sessions conducted via Zoom.

My teaching is based on the Considerate Horsemanship principles of the development of mutual trust, relationship, and connection between horse and rider. I believe a good relationship between human and horse provides the groundwork for everything you do. I work intuitively and act as an ‘interpreter’ between horse and human. Students learn how to understand horse body language and decipher what the horse is thinking. During lessons students learn to be present and fully open to their horse, to truly ‘listen’ with their whole body and mind. The development of light, soft aids is paramount to the development of the skill to communicate with your horse in a freely flowing conversation. Allowing an ongoing conversation based on feel enables horse and human to move as one.

Groundwork is an integral part of my teaching. Students explore the concepts of mindfullness, soft yielding, circles and liberty. Everything you do in the saddle can first be done on the ground. This makes it safer for you and easier for your horse to succeed. If you don't ride, groundwork is a wonderful way to spend quality time with your horse, developing connection and ensuring your horse retains the necessary skills to navigate life in a domestic environment.

I am a traditionally trained riding instructor so I have the ‘eye’ to find what may be holding the rider back from achieving their full potential. My background is in showjumping and dressage and I bring elements of Classical riding into the riding skills I teach. Students learn how to ride in a ‘balanced’ manner which improves their safety, effectiveness and communication with the horse. Both rider AND horse are assisted during the lesson, so they both move forward together.

Relationship, connection, trust, balance, feel and that all important ingredient – heart.

I have been instructing for over 20 years giving both private and group lessons at riding schools. I trained with the Equestrian Federation of Australia as a riding coach. At riding schools I have given single and group lessons and run school holiday camps and competitions (dressage, showjumping and eventing). For a number of years I was a Pony Club instructor. I have worked as a trail guide for over 10 years. I am an RDA (Riding for the Disabled) Coach and Chief Instructor at Happy Horses Bitless. Years of experience have assisted me to develop an eye for how to best help people get the most from their riding and improve their skills. Over the years I have taught all ages and levels and am happy to assist anyone who is looking for a kinder way to be with horses. I bring you the knowledge I have gained from a degree in Equine Science (Charles Sturt University) and a lifetime living and working with horses. For the past 15 years I have been teaching students in bitless bridles. I specialize in transitioning to bitless bridles and bitless riding, as this is where my heart is. I now work exclusively with people who want to ride without bits, spurs or crops.
